Transportation, Waterfront, Arts & Culture

Connect Our City, Celebrate Trenton

Trenton’s location, waterfront, history, and creative talent should be economic assets that improve daily life and bring investment into our city.

Residents deserve safer ways to travel, easier access to the Delaware River, and a Downtown filled with businesses, cultural experiences, and welcoming public spaces.

As mayor, I will connect transportation improvements, waterfront planning, and arts and tourism under a coordinated strategy that benefits residents and creates reasons for people to visit, explore, and invest.

Advance the Route 29 Boulevard Vision

I will work with Mercer County, the State, transportation agencies, and residents to advance the transformation of appropriate portions of Route 29 into a boulevard that better connects Trenton to its waterfront.

This is a long-term undertaking requiring engineering, traffic analysis, environmental review, funding, and public participation. My administration will establish a phased plan with clear milestones and pursue near-term improvements while larger changes are developed.

Priorities include:

  • Evaluating safer crossings and connections between neighborhoods, Downtown, and the river.

  • Pursuing traffic-calming and pedestrian improvements where feasible.

  • Planning for sidewalks, bicycle connections, landscaping, and welcoming public spaces.

  • Coordinating transportation changes with waterfront redevelopment.

  • Preserving necessary access while improving safety and connectivity.

Build a Waterfront Residents Can Enjoy

The Delaware River should be an accessible destination for recreation, community life, and economic activity.

I will pursue responsible mixed-use waterfront development that combines housing, businesses, dining, entertainment, recreation, and green space while maintaining public access.

My vision includes:

  • Exploring opportunities to redevelop underused surface parking areas.

  • Expanding and improving connections to Stacy Park and other waterfront spaces.

  • Recruiting restaurants, cafés, and destinations that bring activity to the riverfront.

  • Evaluating opportunities for water recreation with appropriate safety and environmental protections.

  • Incorporating flood resilience, accessibility, and long-term maintenance into project planning.

  • Integrating parking into development so residents and visitors can reach destinations without allowing parking lots to dominate the waterfront.

Residents will help shape the plan. Development agreements will establish clear expectations for public benefits, infrastructure, and project completion.

Make Walking, Biking, and Transit More Practical

Transportation should connect residents to jobs, schools, healthcare, shopping, and recreation.

I will coordinate with transportation partners to improve connections among neighborhoods, Downtown, the Trenton Transit Center, and the waterfront.

My priorities include:

  • Identifying dangerous intersections and prioritizing pedestrian safety improvements.

  • Improving sidewalks, crossings, lighting, and accessibility.

  • Developing connected bicycle routes and secure bicycle parking.

  • Working with transit providers on service gaps, stop accessibility, and connections to important destinations.

  • Reviewing school travel routes and coordinating safety improvements with schools and public-safety personnel.

  • Providing clear information about transportation options and planned improvements.

Improve Streets and Parking

Reliable streets and understandable parking support residents, businesses, and visitors.

I will establish a prioritized road-maintenance and repaving plan based on pavement condition, safety, infrastructure needs, and available funding. Projects will be coordinated with utility work to reduce repeated excavation and avoidable disruption.

Downtown, I will review parking access, signage, loading needs, and circulation with businesses, residents, and transportation partners. The goal is to make reaching businesses and attractions easier while supporting safe walking and cycling.

Support Trenton’s Artists and Cultural Organizations

Trenton’s artists, performers, cultural institutions, and community traditions deserve a central place in the city’s future.

I will strengthen partnerships that support:

  • Public art, murals, exhibitions, and performances.

  • Opportunities for local artists and vendors at city-supported events.

  • Arts programming for young people and residents of all ages.

  • Cultural festivals and neighborhood events that reflect Trenton’s communities.

  • Creative uses of vacant storefronts and other suitable spaces, with property-owner cooperation.

  • Clearer coordination of event permits, city services, and promotion.

Arts and culture can create employment, support local businesses, and make public spaces more active and welcoming.

Build a Coordinated Tourism Strategy

I will bring tourism, business recruitment, historic preservation, and event promotion into closer coordination so Trenton presents a clear invitation to visitors.

Working with Mercer County, historic sites, cultural organizations, businesses, and regional partners, my administration will:

  • Develop a coordinated calendar of events and visitor information.

  • Promote Trenton’s history, architecture, food, arts, and waterfront.

  • Explore guided tours, walking routes, and event-based transportation options.

  • Connect major events with local restaurants, shops, and attractions.

  • Improve wayfinding between transportation hubs and destinations.

  • Recruit hospitality investment, including lodging opportunities that support a growing visitor economy.

Tourism should generate opportunities for local businesses and residents while respecting neighborhood needs.

Put the Plan Into Action and Measure Results

During my first 100 days, I will review existing transportation and waterfront plans, pending projects, road conditions, funding opportunities, and arts and tourism partnerships.

I will work with Mercer County Executive Dan Benson, state partners, Council, and residents to identify projects that can advance immediately and establish milestones for longer-term work.

Funding will be pursued through eligible transportation, infrastructure, recreation, economic development, and arts programs, alongside responsible public-private partnerships.

My administration will report on planning milestones, funding secured, safety improvements, road projects, public waterfront access, cultural programming, and redevelopment progress.

GOAL: A reconnected waterfront and a Downtown that draws residents, visitors, and investment with measurable progress on access, transportation, development, and cultural activity during my first term.

Trenton’s future should build on what makes our city distinctive: its people, its history, its creativity, and its place on the Delaware River.
